MY NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS

I've never been a fan of New Years Resolutions. Probably because every one I've ever made hasn't lasted past January 3rd ("Eat less chocolate" I'm talking about you). Not to mention the fact that New Years resolutions are almost always such unconquerable feats- "I will go to the gym every day", "I will quit drinking", "I will stop gossipping" and the like. We're setting ourselves up for failure each and every time, and when January 3rd comes along and we're too tired to make it to the gym, we have a sip of wine at a barbecue or we have a scandalous piece of gossip we just have to share, we feel horrible.

That's why this year, instead of making hard and fast rules that I have to live by, I've made a short list of highly attainable goals- things that I want to do (or not do as the case may be) but not things that I'm going to punish myself over if I occasionally step a foot wrong. Setting more attainable goals means more chance for success, resulting in more happiness. What's not to love about that? 

2012 has without a doubt been the best year of my life. Granted, I'm only 18 years old, but when I'm old and grey and telling ancient tales of my past to my grandchildren I sincerely believe that I will still look back on this year as the most definitive of my life. In my eyes, it was the first year that I truly started living (whatever the hell that means). I moved away from my family and my small town and to our little country's version of the 'big smoke'- a city that I had never spent more than a few passing hours in before. It was a year of new experiences, new people and a whole lot of hard work, and next year is only going to be better.
